NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans trumpet player Irvin Mayfield has pleaded not guilty to the latest version of a federal indictment accusing him of fraud and money laundering.
WWL-TV reports Mayfield entered the plea Monday, as did co-defendant Ronald Markham, a pianist who is Mayfield's business and musical partner.
Both are former board members of the charitable New Orleans Public Library Foundation. Both were indicted last year on charges that they spent money raised for the libraries on themselves.
They had to return to court Monday for arraignment on a revised indictment that adds allegations of money transfers not included in last year's charges.
The two recently performed at the International Jazz Festival in South Africa. To travel, they had to fight in court to alter the terms of their bond.
