BATON ROUGE (AP) — Republican Bobby Jindal left the governor's office with his administration embroiled in three high-profile lawsuits — on Planned Parenthood, Common Core and same-sex marriage.
Decisions on those cases now rest with John Bel Edwards. But the new Democratic governor appears in no rush to wade into the controversies.
Federal judges refused to let Jindal's health department cut off Medicaid funds to Planned Parenthood clinics and rejected Jindal's claim the Obama administration was illegally pressuring states to adopt the Common Core education standards.
Edwards spokesman Richard Carbo said the governor hasn't decided whether to continue appeals of the rulings.
In a third case, Jindal was sued for his executive order giving special protections to people who oppose same-sex marriage. Edwards hasn't said whether he'll rescind the order to end the lawsuit.
