NEW ORLEANS (AP) — An attorney who has been serving as the city's deputy police monitor is moving to a new role with an organization that monitors New Orleans' criminal courts.
Court Watch Nola on Monday named Simone Levine as its new executive director.
Court Watch Nola uses volunteers who sit in New Orleans criminal district court rooms to observe judicial proceedings and take notes. The information goes into reports that address various aspects of court efficiency, including how cases progress, the number and length of case delays and other issues.
Levine fills the vacancy left by Brad Cousins, who returned to practicing law. Levine served more than four years as deputy police monitor in the city's Office of the Independent Police Monitor.
