New Compounding Pharmacy and Ambulatory Infusion Suite Opens in Jefferson Parish

NEW ORLEANS – On Tuesday afternoon, Jefferson Parish elected officials and economic development organizations joined the BioScrip staff in celebrating the launch of BioScrip Infusion Services, Inc. – a state of the art sterile compounding pharmacy and ambulatory infusion suite.

The 15,000-square foot facility is located in Elmwood (5401 Jefferson Highway, Suite B) and includes an ambulatory infusion suite equipped with a wellness room, a pharmacy center, a compounding room to ensure the sterile preparation of medications on site, and a warehouse.

During the press conference portion of the event, Harriet Booker, the national chief operating officer of BioScrip, gave a brief speech. She described the company as a “service provider” with a “service score” that would rival other national healthcare providers.

“Our net promoter scores are unparalleled in the industry, and that's why our patients and our referral partners keep coming back to BioScrip,” said Booker, a native New Orleanian. “It’s because of that exceptional service, that our hospital and physician partners across the community continue to trust us with the care of their patients.”

In 2018, they became one of the first and only providers in the New Orleans area to offer PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) placement.

Booker noted that – because of their partnerships with local physicians, hospitals, and health insurers – BioScrip can treat a patient in their facility, or in the comfort of the individual’s home, so that he or she doesn’t have to endure a long stay in the hospital.

BioScrip Infusion Services, formerly CarePoint Partners, boasts nearly 70 service locations across the U.S., including 10 sites in Louisiana. The Jefferson Parish location will employ 44 full-time healthcare professionals.

The celebratory event also underscored the positive economic impact BioScrip will provide Jefferson Parish.

“The economic development in Jefferson Parish is tremendously moving forward,” said Honorable Paul D. Johnston, the councilman of District 2. “In my seven years, almost eighth year, in the counsel, I've never seen this parish move forward as it has in the past four years.”

He cited the recent launches of the Avondale Shipyard and Fuji Vegetable Oil, Inc. as examples of how the region is quickly becoming hub for major businesses – and a home for the employees those businesses attract.

“In Jefferson Parish, and throughout this state, access to quality healthcare is essential,” said Johnston. “As the parish grows economically, the availability of cutting-edge medicine, and patient-focused care, are keys to attracting citizens and ensuring that the people of our community live long, healthy lives.”

Jerry Bologna, the president and CEO of the Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission (JEDCO), shares similar sentiments.

“JEDCO, as part of our long-term economic development, strategic plan for the entire parish, identified healthcare as one of the five sectors where we saw the most potential for growth,” he said during the press conference, adding that Jefferson Highway “is quickly becoming known as the medical corridor of the New Orleans region, with nearly $400 million dollars in medical infrastructure” being invested into it.

Soon after Bologna’s speech, notable guests joined Booker for the ribbon cutting and a round of applause (accompanied by flashing cameras), along with a tour of the bright, a spacious facility.

The celebration was followed by a complementary lunch, refreshments, and dessert in BioScrip's conference room.
