NEW ORLEANS, LA— Today, the Louisiana Department of Education announced that all principals from the New Beginnings Schools Foundation (NBSF) were selected to participate in the 2015 Louisiana Principal Fellowship. The program is in partnership with the National Institute for School Leadership (NISL), and is set to begin this month.
NBSF is the only charter network in New Orleans invited to participate in the fellowship.
The selected principals include: Pierre A. Capdau Charter School principal Rulonda Green, Medard H. Nelson Charter School principal Chauncey Nash, Gentilly Terrace Charter School principal Edward Brown, and Lake Area New Tech Early College High School principal Darren Lewis. In addition, NBSF’s Chief Academic Officer Juaquana Stewart was also selected to participate in the program.
NBSF’s school leaders will be a part of the first cohort of educational leaders participating in the fellowship.
“We are thrilled and honored that the state selected our principals to participate in this prestigious program,” said Sametta Brown, CEO of New Beginnings Schools Foundation. “The training that they will receive from this program will enhance their leadership abilities, and help increase their proficiency levels.”
As participants of the Louisiana Principal Fellowship, educational leaders will receive a year-long training from a two-phase curriculum. The first phase of the program covers overarching techniques to establish particular goals and visions for each school, and dives into the technical strategies of teaching and learning. The second phase develops the principals’ capacity and commitment as institutional leaders in order to drive effective results from students, teachers and staff.
“It’s a humbling experience to be chosen to participate in the fellowship program,” said Darren Lewis, principal at Lake Area New Tech Early College High School. “The Principal’s Fellowship program will greatly contribute to the development of our educational leaders and the education quality of our students.”
The program draws on standards and practices promoted by the Interstate School Leadership Licensure Consortium (ISLLC). ISLLC guides the program by providing high-quality, research-based leadership development training. This training gives administrators and educators the skills to maximize their leadership and improve student achievement.
