BATON ROUGE (AP) — Louisiana will continue to try to cut off Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood clinics.
Attorney General Jeff Landry announced Wednesday that his office is taking over the case left from former Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration.
Landry says he intends to move ahead with an appeal of a federal judge's ruling that blocked Louisiana's efforts to defund Planned Parenthood.
The Jindal administration tried to stop Medicaid funding for the organization's clinics in Louisiana after videos were released by an anti-abortion group claiming Planned Parenthood illegally sells fetal tissue. The organization denied the allegation.
A federal judge ordered Louisiana to continue funding the health services that Planned Parenthood clinics provide to an estimated 5,200 women in Louisiana.
Gov. John Bel Edwards left it to Landry to determine whether to continue the appeal.
