HARVEY, LA – The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s office is one of only six Coroner’s offices out of 1,600 offices across the country to be Accredited by the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME), Jefferson Parish Coroner Gerry Cvitanovich said Monday. The office was originally accredited in 2009 under the leadership of former Coroner Robert Treuting.
In naming its reaccreditation for the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s office, NAME said that the Jefferson Coroner’s office easily achieved accreditation. In its intense and rigorous survey of the office, Medical Examiner inspectors revealed zero deficiencies among its extensive checklist of more than 350 items.
Inspection Team Chairman Dr. David Fowler said, “The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office represents one of the highest quality systems found anywhere in the United States. The citizens can be proud of the hard work, dedication and leadership of Dr. Cvitanovich and his team in attaining this high honor.”
The accreditation will continue until October 2019 at which time the office will need to reapply for its continued accreditation.
"This accreditation means our office is not only meeting, but exceeding the highest professional standards," said Dr. Cvitanovich. "The fact that the inspectors found zero deficiencies is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team at the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office.”
The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s office is the only coroner’s office in the Gulf South to achieve the NAME accreditation. The NAME inspection checklist covers items from multiple categories, including office space, training, safety guidelines, tissue donations and mass disaster plans.
