Morial Convention Center Receives LWCC ‘Safest 70’ Award

NEW ORLEANS – For the fifth consecutive year, the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center has received a “Safest 70” award from the Louisiana Workers Compensation Corporation, the largest workers’ compensation carrier in the state. The award acknowledges excellence, outstanding performance and commitment to workplace safety, and is given to the top 70 of more than 20,000 entities insured by LWCC.

The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center said it was recognized based on the effectiveness of its safety efforts in preventing injuries and maintaining a consistent workplace safety history in 2019.

“It is an honor to for our facility to be recognized by LWCC,” said Michael J. Sawaya, convention center president. “Providing a safe work environment is our highest priority and is a team effort. We consider our employees internal customers and value their input while collaborating on ways to continuously improve our facility. This extends to the numerous ways we are maintaining our health and safety protocols while Louisiana continues to bounce back from the COVID-19 Pandemic.”

Separately, the Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Exhibition Hall Authority, the governing board of the convention center, will also receive a dividend in the amount of $153,592.92 from the LWCC for its continued commitment to workplace safety. The Convention Center plans to use the dividend to re-invest in its longstanding commitments to health and safety.

“We consider our employees internal customers, and value their input while collaborating on ways to continuously improve our facility,” said Authority Chairman Jerry Reyes. “The dividend from LWCC proves that the Center’s workplace culture of ‘safety first’ not only makes this a safe place to work, but also has a real return on investment for our efforts. The dividend we received will be reinvested back into the business to continue to provide a safe environment for our patrons and internal customers as well.”
