Moonbot Studios Makes Oscar Shortlist, Again

SHREVEPORT, LA (AP) — Three years after winning an Oscar for an animated short film about books, Shreveport's Moonbot Studios is among 10 semifinalists in the same category. This short, "The Numberlys," is a fanciful story about the alphabet.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced semifinalists Tuesday.

Moonbot's webpage describes "The Numberlys" as a kid-friendly tribute to Fritz Lang's silent movie "Metropolis." Five friends in a black-and-white world where only numbers exist create a colorful alphabet, a letter at a time.

As Moonbot did with its previous Oscar winner, "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore," Moonbot has a "Numberlys" picture book and storybook app. The book costs $18 and the app $5.99. The studio also makes a $.99 interactive app to go with each book.
