MONROE, LA (AP) — A Monroe-based nonprofit organization devoted to helping children and families is receiving a grant to provide services for teenage parents.
The Children's Coalition for Northeast Louisiana says it is receiving the $50,000 grant from United Health Care.
The project aims to improve pregnancy outcomes for pregnant teens in Ouachita, Union and Madison Parishes, while providing support for teen parents. The project will operate in four high schools.
The Children's Coalition says northeast Louisiana has a teen birth rate of 55.6 teen births per 1,000 teens, more than twice the national average.
