Monday Events Will Honor The Legacy Of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

NEW ORLEANS – Mayor Mitch Landrieu, members of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Planning Commission and special guests will host a special event in commemoration of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

         The City’s annual MLK holiday celebration will begin with the opening program at City Hall, 1300 Perdido St., New Orleans, at 9:00 a.m., and will be followed by the 29th Annual Memorial MLK March at 9:45 a.m. The March will follow a nearly 1½ -mile route from City Hall to the MLK Monument on South Claiborne Avenue and Felicity Street.

         All residents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

         In addition, this year’s celebration will include the development of a vision board created by artist and community organizer, Brandan ‘BMike” Odums. The vision board will be positioned next to the MLK Monument and all residents are invited to write expressions, leave artifacts and post photographs of the vision they have for the city.
