Miss USA Pageant To Return To Baton Rouge In '15

BATON ROUGE (AP) — The Miss USA pageant will return to Baton Rouge this summer for the second year in a row.

The Advocate’s Rebekah Allen reports that the production company is being offered a package of $545,000, and it applied for the same amount in tax credits, which are often swapped out for cash by out-of-state film companies.

Last year, Miss USA BR Productions received an incentive package of $365,000 plus tax credits.

The Baton Rouge Metro Council on Wednesday approved $230,000 of local funding for the package. Mayor-President Kip Holden will provide another $50,000 from his discretionary economic development account.

Nia Sanchez of Las Vegas, Nevada, was crowned as the 63rd Miss USA in Baton Rouge last year, besting 50 other contestants from all the states and the District of Columbia.
