NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Public Library's Mid-City branch has to find a new home in a hurry. The building where the branch is located won't renew its lease, which expires Oct. 31.
Library board chairman Bernard Charbonnet tells The New Orleans Advocate’s Jaquetta White that the owner, ACV VI LLC of Norcross, Georgia, has other plans for the space in the American Can. Co. apartment complex.
The company did not return the newspaper's call for comment.
Library spokesman John Marc Sharpe says the library is working with the city's Property Management Department to find a new location in the neighborhood.
The branch is one of 14. It opened in February 2011 at the current site. Before then, a temporary branch had operated since 2007 on North Carrollton Avenue.
