MGM Park Will Open For First Baseball Game June 6

BILOXI, MS (AP) — City officials now say the Biloxi Shuckers' stadium will be ready for the first home game on June 6 against the Mobile Bay Bears.

According to local media reports, the city, the team and Yates Construction reached a new deal Thursday.

It could have cost the city an extra $380,000 to get the stadium ready by that date. That's money the city didn't want to pay.

Tim Bennett says he and majority team owner Ken Young provided money to meet the expenses necessary to get a temporary certificate of occupancy for the June 6 opening.

It doesn't mean that all construction will be finished.

Yates will have to do a lot of stopping and starting to work around games. The extra money is to accommodate Yates vendors who will be affected.
