METAIRIE, LA – Since opening its doors in 1976, Qwik Chek Deli and Catering, 2018 Clearview Pkwy., has been serving popular po-boys and homemade, hot plate lunches and dinners to residents in the Greater New Orleans Region for 40 years.
Qwik Chek is owned and operated by Sal Mortillaro, who is a New Orleans native and self-proclaimed food connoisseur. He has 40-plus years of experience in the food and service industry, and he said he makes it his number one priority to serve his customers the satisfaction they deserve.
Mary Gail Foto, who has worked for Sal for the past 20 years, said she runs the Qwik Chek kitchen with an iron-fist and a heart of compassion. She said she arrives to work every morning at 6:00 a.m., sometimes even earlier, to begin preparing the food and to ensure that each dish, no matter if it is a po-boy or a salad, is of quality work.
Qwik Chek reps said they have a reputation for offering great tasting menu items, but they are best known for their one of a kind, artisan po-boys. Their staple in the vast sea of local restaurants that gives them a unique edge over fellow competitors is the overstuffed option they offer, they said.
Instead of the customary amount of meat that a normal po-boy shop would put on their po-boys, Qwik Chek gives customers the choice of having their po-boys overstuffed for $1 to $2 more depending on the type of po-boy they order. Qwik Chek reps said it has become an in-demand feature of the restaurant, and it is the most fulfilling way to get the most bang out of your buck.
Qwik Chek also specializes in catering. Many of the items on the catering menu are not offered in store with the exception of po-boys and salads. Qwik Chek reps said with a wide variety of menu items to choose from, including sandwich trays, fruit and vegetable trays, hot meals, salads, and desserts, they are readily available to cater your next event, big or small. There are few and far between that can cater great tasting meals with that authentic New Orleans kick right to you, they said, and for 40 years Qwik Chek has proven to be the business to do it with efficiency.
In addition to serving lunch and dinner, seven days a week, Qwik Chek also offers breakfast from 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Qwik Chek operates as a convenience store with a wide variety of chips, Coca Cola products, beer, liquor and tobacco products for sale. Three video poker machines are also located in the store and are fully operational from open to close.
