COVINGTON, LA – Patrick McMath declared victory in the race to serve as City Councilman At-Large in Covington.
With all precincts reporting, McMath won nearly 56 percent, winning in a three-candidate primary against two longtime politicians, on Saturday, March 25.
"I'm ecstatic about this win and I'm so proud of the campaign we ran," said McMath. "My family, volunteers, supporters and campaign staff all worked very hard, and the people of Covington responded to our message."
McMath, 32, ran as an outsider against current Councilman Jerry Coner and former Councilman Trey Blackall. He will now serve the remaining two years of the term, which became vacant when longtime Councilman Lee Alexius passed away last autumn.
Blackall finished with 23 percent, and Coner won 21 percent of the vote.
"I will work hard to improve Covington's infrastructure and drainage, to ensure continued public safety, and advance responsible economic development," said McMath. "I can't wait to take the oath of office and begin the important work of representing all the people of Covington on the Council."
