McGehee Installs New Headmistress

NEW ORLEANS – On Thursday, Oct. 18, Dr. Kimberly Field-Marvin was installed as the Headmistress of Louise S. McGehee School. The announcement was shared in a press release.

Before her appointment as McGehee’s new Headmistress, Field-Marvin served as the Upper Middle School head at Marymount School in New York City where she was part of the senior leadership team. Marymount, a highly regarded girls’ school, is an independent school with 760 students enrolled in grades K-12.

As the first head of this new division, Field-Marvin managed all aspects of the program from teacher hiring, supervision, and curriculum development, to admissions and parent relationships. Before being named Division Head, Field-Marvin was the director of communications at Marymount.

Field-Marvin's early professional work was at the Maple Street School in Vermont, where she was a teacher and counselor. She was part of the founding group of teachers and parents and worked tirelessly to build its programs. Her responsibilities there included writing the self-study for accreditation as well as the strategic plan. Field-Marvin’s duties grew considerably during her tenure at Maple Street, and by the time she was ready to pursue more administrative responsibilities in the city, she had made an indelible mark on the school.

Field-Marvin earned her master of arts at Middlebury’s Bread Loaf School of English as well as a masters of arts in education from Castleton State College. In addition to two masters degrees, she recently earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania, while working full-time. Her dissertation topic was "The Making of Me: Exploring How Early Adolescent Girls Experience Agency in an Engaging, Student-Directed Learning Environment".

Dr. Field-Marvin was appointed McGehee’s 12th Headmistress by the Board of Trustees in November, 2017 and began her tenure on July 1, 2018.
