NEW ORLEANS — On Sunday, Sept. 24, the City of New Orleans, New Orleans Recreation and Development (NORD) Commission and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) unveiled improvements for Lemann Playground, 590-648 N. Claiborne Ave., and held a community celebration to kick off the 2017 National Recreation and Park Association Conference.
The Lemann Playground improvements are part of NRPA’s Parks Build Community initiative.
Designed to meet the community’s need for additional recreational space, the new playground, valued at nearly $1 million, will offer a variety of family-friendly amenities, including numerous state-of-the-art play structures and exercise equipment.
The celebration began with a second line that started at the intersection of Lafitte Street and North Claiborne Avenue at 1:30 p.m. with a park dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting immediately following at Lemann Playground.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu, Vic Richard, CEO, NORDC and Barbara Tulipane, president and CEO, NRPA, were in attendance.
This event was free and open to the public.
