NEW ORLEANS – Mayor Mitch Landrieu issued the following statement after the Supreme Court announced its decision in King v. Burwell on tax-credit subsidies for coverage under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:
“Today’s Supreme Court decision is a major victory for the more than 138,000 Louisianans who can now continue to afford their health insurance premiums. I also continue to call on Governor Jindal and the state legislature to expand Medicaid, which would help nearly 200,000 working-class Louisianans obtain adequate, affordable health insurance coverage – strengthening families and saving lives. By increasing the number of people with health insurance in New Orleans, we can build a healthier, stronger workforce that will attract more businesses, create more jobs and accelerate our economic prosperity.”
