NEW ORLEANS – Mayor Mitch Landrieu released the following statement on the official appointment Thursday of Gary D. Maynard as the Independent Jail Compliance Director by Federal Court Judge Lance Africk.
“I am pleased the Court officially approved Gary D. Maynard for the position of Independent Jail Compliance Director following our nomination for this important position. This independent position is critical because the Compliance Director will have full and final authority to operate the jail, including authority over the entire prisoner population in the custody of the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was one of two recommendations after an exhaustive nationwide search for Compliance Director candidates. I believe he will be capable of leading the urgent and daunting task of bringing the Orleans Parish jail into Constitutional compliance as expeditiously as possible. We look forward to working with Mr. Maynard to ensure the jail is safe, secure, well-run and right-sized.”
