Mayor Landrieu Issues Statement On 6th Anniversary Of BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill

NEW ORLEANS – Yesterday, Mayor Mitch Landrieu released the following statement on the 6th anniversary of the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill:

"On this sixth anniversary of the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill – the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history – we honor the lives lost and the tens of thousands of people impacted by this tragedy. The people of New Orleans and across the Gulf Coast have been resilient in the face of adversity. Time and time again, we have been challenged by events and circumstances beyond our control.  Whether the disaster is natural or man-made, we have always come back stronger than before.

"This anniversary is a reminder that protecting and restoring Louisiana's coastal wetlands is paramount. BP has a responsibility to ensure that the damage they caused is repaired, but more importantly, government and industry must come together to be more aggressive in not only restoring our fragile coast, but also in preventing oil spills in the future."
