NEW ORLEANS — Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu issued a statement regarding the 50th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:
“Today, on the 50th anniversary of his tragic death, it is important we take time to pause and reflect upon the life’s work and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He was a champion for what mattered most – economic opportunity, equality, justice and peace. With an open heart and iron will, Dr. King showed us what it means to be a servant leader because he carried the torch for all of us. We are not only the heirs of his legacy; we march forward as its stewards. We are responsible for realizing his dream and achieving for our children what was not accomplished during his time. As Dr. King said, ‘No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.’”
