NEW ORLEANS, LA – Monday, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced his endorsement of candidates running for office in November's elections.
Mayor Landrieu said, “I look forward to working with these candidates to continue to move New Orleans forward.”
• President/Vice President
Hillary Clinton & Tim Kaine
“The stakes are too high in this election for families in Louisiana, and there is only one person in this race who knows how to get results for them: Hillary Clinton,” said Landrieu. “Hillary will be ready on day one to make us strong both at home and abroad. She has always been a friend and partner to our city and state and will continue to be so in the White House. Donald Trump's hateful and demeaning rhetoric is dangerous. We must elect Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine."
• U.S. Senate
Caroline Fayard
"Caroline Fayard will fight for New Orleans and Louisiana," said Mayor Landrieu. "She will bring new energy to Washington. Caroline will keep flood protection and coastal restoration a top priority. She also understands that investments in public safety and infrastructure will make our city and state stronger. Lastly, I am confident she will also support public charter schools, which is vital to keeping our city and state moving forward."
• 2nd Congressional District
Rep. Cedric Richmond
Mayor Landrieu said, "Congressman Richmond has been a great partner and constant fighter for our city. Working with President Obama, he has helped us secure major new investments for our airport, port, and transportation system. He has been a progressive leader on important criminal justice reforms and helped make flood insurance more affordable for our residents. I know that as he continues to gain seniority and stature in Congress, he will continue to use his power to help the city with public safety and infrastructure funding. He deserves our support."
• Orleans Parish School Board
District 6 Woody Koppel
District 7 Nolan Marshall, Jr.
Mayor Landrieu had previously endorsed incumbents Sarah Usdin and John Brown and new members Ethan Ashley and Ben Kleban, all of whom were elected without opposition.
"There is nothing that we are doing in New Orleans that is more important to our future than improving our education system," said Landrieu. "As our schools unify under local control, this new school board must continue to keep charter school choice, autonomy, and accountability in tact. The results are clear, and we have to keep improving."
