NEW ORLEANS – On Monday, October 3, 2016, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) officials will join New Orleans residents and business owners to celebrate the launch of the new $41.5 million bond funded North Rampart Street/ St. Claude Avenue Streetcar line extension, in front of Armstrong Park, 701 N. Rampart St., at 2:00 p.m.
Dignitaries and invited guests, including Mayor Landrieu, Sharonda Williams, RTA Board Chair, Justin Augustine, RTA General Manager and VP of Transdev and City Councilmembers, will take part in a ribbon cutting and an inaugural ride on the streetcar, which will be in revenue service at that time.
Back on track for the first time since 1949, streetcars are now operating along the North Rampart Street/ St. Claude Avenue corridor for 1.6 miles from Canal Street to Elysian Field Avenue serving the French Quarter, Iberville, Treme-Lafitte, Seventh Ward and Marigny.
