NEW ORLEANS – Matthew S. Chester of Baker Donelson has been named a recipient of the "Super Performance by a Litigative Team" award, which is given by the Department of Justice Executive Office of U.S. Attorneys.
Chester, previously an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) for the Eastern District of Louisiana, was part of the trial team responsible for the prosecution of C. Ray Nagin, the former Mayor of New Orleans.
This trial team, comprised of fifteen individuals, was recognized at the Executive Office for United States Attorneys Director's 31st Annual Awards Ceremony, held in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at the Robert F. Kennedy Department of Justice Building.
Chester, of counsel in Baker Donelson's New Orleans office, joined the Firm's Business Litigation Group and Government Enforcement and Investigations Team earlier this year. While at the Department of Justice serving as an AUSA, he held the position of Deputy Supervisor of the Public Integrity group. Chester focused on white collar crime, fraud and public/official corruption prosecutions. His experience in handling high-profile trials and convictions obtained against former elected and public officials earned him several awards, including five Excellence in Law Enforcement Awards from the New Orleans Metropolitan Crime Commission, as well as awards from the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General.
