Mark J. Peters Named UnitedHealthcare-Gulf States’ New Chief Medical Officer

NEW ORLEANS – UnitedHealthcare-Gulf States’ announces a new chief medical officer, Mark J. Peters, M.D., CPE, former CEO and president of East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie.

During his 15-year tenure with East Jefferson, Dr. Peters brought a wealth of experience in financial operations, board relations, community leadership and physician engagement to the 460-bed, tertiary care, public magnet hospital.  He also oversaw its health system which employed the physician network, laundry, EMS service, and hospital-physician joint ventures.

Under his leadership, he had oversight of a medical staff of 650, 2,330 full-time employees and brought in annual gross revenues of $1.1 billion. Dr. Peters brings 37 years of medical expertise to his new role and will undoubtedly be a tremendous asset to the UnitedHealthcare (UHC) leadership team and its nearly 2 million members across the Gulf States.
