MONROE, LA (AP) — Monroe chef and restaurateur Cory Bahr has been named "People's Best New Chef" in the nation by Food and Wine Magazine.
The News-Star’s Barbara Leader reports Bahr was chosen People's Best New Chef by receiving the most votes on the magazine's website. He was prominently featured as the winner on the magazine's home page.
Bahr, who owns Monroe's Restaurant Cotton and Nonna, has been recognized for sourcing the best ingredients — from cornmeal and sweet potatoes to rabbits, venison and duck eggs — from friends and neighbors for his updated Southern dishes.
Before opening his own restaurants, Bahr was executive chef at Sage in Monroe and served internships at Commander's Palace and Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse, both in New Orleans.
