NEW ORLEANS — The Mayor’s Office and the Orleans Parish Juvenile Court, in partnership with Lyft, began a new program to assist youth and their families in transportation to and from the Youth Study Center and Juvenile Court. Any family taking a Lyft to or from either location can receive a $5 discount by using the code "NOLAYSC". The announcement was made in a press release.
"Because of the location of Juvenile Court and the Youth Study Center, it is difficult for youth and their families to access the facilities for their court appointments and visitation," Office of Transportation director Laura Bryan said. "This program is a first step in alleviating the transportation burden."
Dr. Kyshun Webster, director of the Youth Study Center, said, "Our staff at the Youth Study Center is committed to ensuring our young people receive the support and assistance they need. I have seen firsthand the importance of family engagement at the Youth Study Center and I am hopeful this program will assist families and parents in visiting their young people at the facility by removing transportation barriers."
Chief judge Candice Bates-Anderson said, "The Orleans Parish Juvenile Court is excited about the partnership with Lyft because we recognize that accessibility goes hand in hand with justice. This partnership is an example of how we are working with partners throughout the city to develop creative solutions to the barriers that our young people and their families face."
The pilot program will run through the end of June.
