NEW ORLEANS – The Annual Lusher Fun Run will benefit French Settlement schools in Lafourche Parish for their flood recovery efforts today, on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at Lusher's Brees Family Field, 5624 Freret St., from 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
All Lusher Elementary students, K-5th grade, will run on Lusher's Brees Family Field in the school's annual Fun Run. The kids will run with their grade levels, about 100 kids at a time, in about 40 minute cycles. Parents sponsor their children per lap to raise money.
Middle and high school students, teachers and administrators from the Freret campus will be on hand to cheer them on, including Lusher cheerleaders.
This event occurs annually and typically benefits the school's Parent Teacher Student Association's efforts, but this year, students, teachers and administration wanted to do something to help neighbors affected by recent flooding. Therefore, the proceeds will be donated to two schools in French Settlement in Livingston Parish. Students have also come up with other ways to raise moneys to help these flood victims, including Penny Drives at both campuses.
Some students and administrators from French Settlement will be at Lusher to cheer the kids on. French Settlement's two school buildings are some of the only structures in the small town that did not flood. More than 85% of the students and faculty's homes were flooded.
