NEW ORLEANS — Members of L’Union Française, a Franco-American nonprofit, elected the board of directors for the coming year at an annual soirée at the Sidecar Patio & Oyster Bar on Sunday, Nov. 12.
The new board includes Faustine Hillard (first vice-president), Karen Walk Geisert, Trey Neelis, Martin Adamo, Kelley Levy (co-historian), Emile Honorée, Marguerite Keenan (treasurer), Raymond Price (co-historian), Bob Simon, Allison Alsup, Megan Neelis, Veronique Day (second vice-president), Hilda Sapera, Joseph Mistrot (president) and Fran Simon.
Founded in 1872, L’Union Française works to support and preserve the French language and French and Francophone cultures. The organization gives grants to elementary school French programs and awards to high school students, while also offering French language and culture classes for adults, plus additional community events.
The goal of the L’Union Française language program for adults is to make communication in French a “natural, personalized, enjoyable and rewarding experience.” The instruction is intimate and student-centered while providing a balanced focus on comprehension, speaking, writing and reading. Experienced French teachers who are either native speakers or have lived in francophone countries teach all classes.
