BATON ROUGE (AP) — The LSU School of Dentistry will receive $58.4 million to help cover the costs of repairs from Hurricane Katrina.
U.S. Rep. Cedric Richmond says the funding from the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency will allow LSU to restore the facilities and modernize the program to "ensure that it remains one of the premiere professional schools in the nation."
The centerpiece of the project is the construction of an elevated annex that will house critical clinical and research functions that were located on the 1st floor of the Clinic Building and in the shared basement underneath the Clinic and Administration Buildings.
The annex also will house mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment that supports the two main buildings that was located in the basement and destroyed by floodwaters.
