Lower Mississippi River (LMR) Dredging Update 21116

The industry hopper dredge NEWPORT has sailed to Port Fourchon to have a thrust bearing replaced.  The NEWPORT is expected to resume dredging in the area of the SWP jetties (Mile 18 to Mile 20 Below Head of Passes) by the weekend. The NEWPORT’s contract (Southwest Pass Hopper #4-2015) was extended until approximately March 1, 2016.  The NEWPORT began dredging in the area of Head of Passes on Thursday, December 24, 2015.

The National Weather Service’s latest Extended Streamflow Prediction (28-Day Forecast) indicates the stage level on the Carrollton Gauge (New Orleans) will continue to slowly fall the next few days before a slight rise.  The stage level on the Carrollton Gauge was 11.10 feet at 1200 hours today.  The stage is expected to slowly fall and then rise to a crest of 12.3 feet on February 25, 2016 before beginning a steady fall expected to reach 9.0 feet on March 9, 2016.  Please see the link for complete stage information.
