Lounge Of Historic Hotel Bentley To Open Soon

ALEXANDRIA, LA (AP) — A lounge of the historic Hotel Bentley may be opening soon.

The Town Talk’s Jeff Matthews reports that the Mirror Room lounge could be opened up to the public by New Year's.

The Bentley opened in 1908 but closed for several years before Michael Jenkins bought it in 2012. Renovations call for converting the seven-story tower portion of the property into condominiums. The building's original portion will remain a hotel with up to 94 rooms.

The restoration has been harder than expected. For example, two main elevators in the lobby had to be replaced. In February, a pipe burst, flooding the property's downstairs with water.

"It seems like every time we think we're getting ready to open, something unforeseen happens," Jenkins said.
