BATON ROUGE (AP) — Louisiana's state art collection will be housed in Alexandria.
Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne announced Tuesday that the state Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism had reached an agreement with the Alexandria Museum of Art that will have the state art collection permanently displayed there.
Dardenne said most of the pieces in the state art collection have been held in storage or displayed in state buildings in recent years.
The 99-piece collection contains sculpture, stained glass, paintings, drawings, photography and etching. It includes pieces by Natchitoches folk artist Clementine Hunter, Shreveport sculptor Clyde Connell and New Orleans artist Ida Kohlmeyer.
The Alexandria Museum of Art intends to have many of the items on display to the public by early 2017 to coincide with the museum's 40th anniversary.
