Louisiana State Police Made Impact On Mardi Gras Security

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Louisiana State Police deployed approximately 170 troopers from across the state to assist with the Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans.

         Col. Mike Edmonson says the troopers' assignments consisted of foot patrols in the French Quarter and parade routes, plain clothes operations and vehicle patrols in the French Quarter and surrounding areas and air support.

         Edmonson said in a news release troopers were able to supplement New Orleans police and provide extra police security.

         He said troopers made 150 arrests, 15 illegally possessed weapons were seized and recovered eight stolen vehicles.
