Louisiana Officials Head To Iowa To Promote Agri-Tourism

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana's lieutenant governor and agriculture commissioner are traveling to Iowa to trade agri-tourism ideas with other states' officials.

Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, Louisiana's top tourism official, announced Monday that he and Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain were in Des Moines.

Nungesser's office says they're attending a farm show and meeting other Republican lieutenant governors from around the country. The pair will return to Louisiana on Tuesday.

Nungesser is trying to find more agreements like Louisiana has with Luckett Farms, which allows farmers to operate at Rosedown Plantation State Historic Site. They can create corn mazes, host pick-it-yourself strawberries and have vegetable stands, among other activities.

The lieutenant governor's office says its state parks agency no longer has to maintain that part of the site, while the attractions draw more revenue-generating tourists.
