Louisiana Democratic Party to Get Out the Vote

Party endorses Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo in 5th District race.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana's Democratic Party says it will have a strong get-out-the vote effort for the lone Democrat running for the congressional seat representing northeast Louisiana.
The party announced Tuesday that its governing body voted to endorse Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo in the 5th District race.
State Democratic Party Chair Karen Carter Peterson says that endorsement will be backed by door-knocking, mailers, radio advertising and other support for Mayo.
Nine candidates are running in the Nov. 4 election, including Republican incumbent Vance McAllister, trying to overcome a cheating scandal that threatens his re-election.
Mayo ran unsuccessfully for the congressional seat in last year's special election that sent McAllister to Washington. The Monroe mayor hopes that since he's the only Democrat in the race this year, he has a better shot at victory. (AP NEWS).
