Local New Orleans Organization Wins Starbucks Foundation's Upstanders Challenge

Youth Rebuilding New Orleans will receive $25,000 from the foundation for their efforts in the community

NEW ORLEANS – In 2016, the Starbucks Corporation launched an initiative called "Upstanders," an original series highlighting ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Earlier this year, the company released the second season of the series with 11 inspirational stories about people in the community evoking positive change.

In conjunction with the launch of the second season, the Starbucks Foundation created the Upstanders Competition to award more than half of a million dollars in grants to certain charities that reflected the values of "Upstanders." Thousands of organizations entered the competition, where winners were voted on via social media likes and shares by millions of people. In the end, 25 winners were chosen – whose work spanned support for veterans affairs, children's welfare, community support and more – to receive $25,000 in grants from the foundation.

This winning group of charities included New Orleans organization Youth Rebuilding New Orleans.
