NEW ORLEANS – This Sunday, March 26, 18 local businesses will compete to raise funds for the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) in its inaugural Pedal with a Purpose (PWP) event at 1600 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Presented by YEP, PWP is a community-driven fundraiser that will include music, food, raffles and a series of pedicab races amongst event sponsors. The showdown is free, and entertainment will be provided by various performers including WWOZ’s DJ Brice Nice, St. Augustine’s Marching Band and the Disco Amigos.
Founded in 2004, YEP engages underserved young people through community-based education, mentoring and employment readiness programs and helps them develop skills and strengthen ties to family and community, reps said. In 2016, YEP served 1201 young people through a total of 11 programs at 6 sites.
