NEW ORLEANS – Vanessa Herbert has always been passionate about design, typography and hand lettering. It’s in her genes, as her mother, too, was a graphic designer, always leaving beautifully written “just because” notes on her bed and in later years, on her front porch. Depending on the day, these small token of affection can be simply a mood elevator or in some cases, a reminder to not sweat the small stuff.
Last year, Vanessa decided to turn her passion into a personal mission to revive the art of the handwritten note, a form of communication that’s become almost lost in the wake of email, text messaging and social media.
V. Paperie launched to provide a unique paper goods subscription service directly to one’s front door, combining fine paper products, beautifully designed stationery, desk accessories and distinctive gifts. Individuals can purchase for themselves or gift to others, choosing from a one-time purchase, three or six-month subscription.
“Taking the time to write someone a note can truly cause a universal shift in a moment, in a relationship and in some cases, in a lifetime. Whether communicating love, appreciation, sympathy, pride or encouragement, my hope is that by providing tangible communications pieces to one’s front door, more people will benefit from the comfort in simple words,” said Vanessa.
V. Paperie customer Kristen said, ”This box is really great because it's constantly giving me inspiration for creative and new ways to entertain, present gifts and even the most simple ings like make lists and take notes. Handwritten notes and pretty stationery have fast been replaced by smart phones and tablets so I'm happy to see a box like this available. I’m a subscriber for as long as it's available.”
As we kick off the holiday shopping season, Vanessa hopes more people will consider her stationery to send someone in their life a meaningful note. Earlier this week, her customer Jamie took the time to write a card to her grandmother Deanna. As she opened it, Deanna immediately teared up, noting, “It just makes you feel loved, that you are important. As you get older, your family grows and everyone is so busy, it’s nice to have someone take the time to say they care.”
