RUSTON, LA (AP) — Lincoln Parish School District employees are receiving their "13th check" just in time for holiday shopping.
The Ruston Leader reports both certified and support employees are receiving a $50 increase over what they received last year. Certified employees are getting $2,500, while support employees get $1,250.
Chief Financial Officer George Murphy says there was a slight increase in sales taxes this year allowing the parish to raise the bonus amount by about 2 percent.
Murphy encouraged the district's employees to try and support local businesses. He says the supplemental check comes straight from sales taxes so it's only fair for those on the receiving end to help support the local economy.
