NEW ORLEANS – Young Audiences of Louisiana and Sacred Heart kicks off YALA’s free Professional Development Series for Community Arts Educators, featuring an hour with Russell Granet, Executive Director of the Lincoln Center Institute, on Monday, Jan. 26, at 2:00 p.m., at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, 4521 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans.
The event is free and open to the public, and Granet, a distinguished artist, educator and international consultant, will give the keynote speech and conduct a Q & A session.
Future topics in the series will include: Understanding the National Core Arts Standards (March), Integrating the Arts and Common Core State Standards (April) and Arts-Integrated Residency Design (June).
For more than 50 years, YALA has operated after-school programs that promote academic excellence and social growth through the arts. Studies have shown that students enrolled in Young Audiences after-school programs outperformed their peers on standardized tests, exhibited fewer disciplinary issues and had increased school attendance.
Space is limited for January’s event, and attendees are encouraged to RSVP by Jan. 22: info@ya4la.org
