NEW ORLEANS – Loyola University New Orleans’ award-winning School of Music makes the marquee, welcoming three world-class performers to faculty as 2016-2017 academic year commences. Dave Anderson, Daniel Lelchuk and Philip von Maltzahn join Loyola as adjunct faculty, bringing “strings” students further opportunity to develop their skills working and playing one-on-one alongside renowned masters.
“We are delighted to have on board three more world-class musicians to teach ‘strings’ at Loyola as we are expanding our offerings,” said Director of Orchestras Jean Montes. “With these additions, our students have further opportunity to study under practicing professionals and to explore more resources as they develop to their full potential.”
Located within Loyola’s College of Music and Fine Arts, Loyola’s School of Music is a conservatory in which professional musicians are trained in a rich academic environment, and where students can roam the halls and converse with Grammy Award winners and internationally renowned musicians, program reps said. CMFA also includes Loyola’s acclaimed Film and Music Industry Studies Department, which prepares aspiring musicians, singers, performers, directors, producers, crafts, and industry executives for entrepreneurial success in the creative professions.
“We are thrilled to welcome these spectacular musicians to further strengthen our outstanding ‘strings’ program in the Loyola University New Orleans School of Music,” said Anthony Decuir, dean of the College of Music and Fine Arts. “Working under the guidance of leading professionals, our students gain the skills, insights, training, and work experience they need to secure their first jobs in the music world — and to lead successful and meaningful professional careers.”

Adjunct Doublebass Professor
Anderson, a professional double bassist, joined the Louisiana Philharmonic (LPO) in New Orleans in September of 1996 after winning their Principal Bass audition. Prior to that appointment, he performed and recorded regularly with the Louisville Orchestra and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, among others. Since 1994, he has served as Principal Bassist in the Britt Festival Orchestra in Oregon.

Adjunct Cello Professor
Lelchuk was appointed Assistant Principal cellist of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in Fall 2013 by music director Carlos Miguel Prieto; he holds the same position with the New Orleans Opera Association. Described by the Washington Post as a “dazzling virtuoso,” he has concertized throughout North America, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe. He was invited to perform as visiting cellist with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra in Doha and has also performed as principal cello at the Royal Opera House Muscat in Oman with the Castleton Opera and with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería in Mexico City.

Adjunct Cello Professor
Cellist Philip von Maltzahn’s diverse and active performing career includes appearances at the Library of Congress, the National Gallery of Art, UCLA's Clark Library, Chicago Chamber Music Society, Atlanta’s Spivey Hall, and Harris Hall at the Aspen Music Festival. Praised for his soaring tone by the Classical Voice of North Carolina and for brilliantly played solos by the LA Times, he has performed at many of the finest concert venues across the United States. He has been featured as a soloist playing with the Western Peidmont Symphony, the Greensboro Symphony, the Great Noise Ensemble, and the Delaware County Symphony. Solo recitals include performances at the Eastman School of Music, Indiana University, Furman University, and the University of Texas at Arlington. An avid performer of contemporary music, von Maltzahn has premiered works by Alan Schindler, Joan Tower, Laura Kaminsky, Armando Bayolo, Andrew Waggoner, Stefan Freund, and Tucker Fuller.
