NEW ORLEANS (press release) – LCMC Health, the Louisiana-based, not-for-profit hospital system serving the Gulf Coast region, has launched its Keeping You Well program to help individuals make healthier choices while grocery shopping. The nutrition-focused initiative introduces clear guidelines for identifying healthy food options, emphasizing nutritional components such as carbohydrates, protein, trans fat, added sugars, sodium, saturated fat, cholesterol and other key nutrients.
The Keeping You Well program, which is built on evidence-based guidelines, provides clear criteria for identifying healthy options. For example, it promotes lean protein sources such as chicken, poultry, fish, beans and plant-based options; a diverse intake of essential micronutrients from a variety of food sources; and less than 600mg of sodium per meal (or below 250mg per snack). Keeping You Well prepared foods are marked with stickers, while shelf talkers on the aisles indicate which foods are included under the program.
LCMC Health’s first partnership with locally owned Langenstein’s marks a significant step in helping the community make healthier food choices. “As a family-owned business deeply rooted in this community, Langenstein’s is honored to be the inaugural partner of the Keeping You Well program,” said Ellis Lanaux, president and CEO of Langenstein’s, in a recent press release. “We recognize the importance of providing our customers with healthier choices, and this initiative aligns perfectly with our commitment to the well-being of our community.”
