NEW ORLEANS – LCMC Health Chief Executive Officer Gregory C. Feirn was recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review, a national healthcare publication, as one of the 135 Nonprofit Hospital and Health System CEOs to Know in 2016. The annual list is compiled based on a competitive nomination process. Nominees are evaluated on business accomplishments, leadership style and community involvement.
Feirn has served as CEO of LCMC Health, a Louisiana based, not-for-profit hospital system, since 2014. LCMC Health operates and manages Children’s Hospital New Orleans, Touro, University Medical Center New Orleans, New Orleans East Hospital and West Jefferson Medical Center. As CEO, Feirn works closely with the Board of Trustees to provide executive oversight, analysis of system and hospital operations, and overall strategic direction.
“During the many years I have worked with Greg, he has always had a people-focused approach,” William Mimeles, Chairman of the LCMC Health Board of Trustees, said. “This unique quality has earned him the respect and admiration of those who work with him, and instilled a company culture of kindness and a sense of pride in the care LCMC Health hospitals provide. This distinguished national recognition is a testament to Greg’s thoughtful, compassionate leadership style and the strong work underway at our health system.”
A native of Wisconsin, Feirn joined the Children’s Hospital family in 1998 as the organization’s comptroller. His talent was quickly recognized and a succession of promotions at Children’s Hospital followed, including Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Operations and Research, and Chief Financial Officer, LCMC Health reps said. At the inception of LCMC Health, he assumed the role of system Chief Financial Officer and was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer, and ultimately Chief Executive Officer in May 2014 at the age of 45.
Since forming in 2009, LCMC Health has quickly become one of the largest healthcare systems in the state, with over $1.3 billion in revenue, and more than 8,200 employees and 2,100 physicians.
August 2015, on the 10-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, marked the opening of the $1.2 billion University Medical Center New Orleans, home of the Reverend Avery C. Alexander Academic Research Hospital. The academic medical destination is a public-private partnership with the State of Louisiana. Feirn, who served as lead negotiator on the arrangement, helped to ensure the facility continues to serve the community with the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center and the training of more than 2,400 medical, dental, nursing and allied health students annually.
Becker’s Hospital Review is the leading source of cutting-edge business and legal information for healthcare industry leaders, LCMC Health reps said.
