Lake Charles Moves Forward With Vacant Lot Program

LAKE CHARLES, LA (AP) — The Lake Charles North Redevelopment Authority official Jerry Jones says the Lot Next Door program is moving forward.

He tells the American Press’ Justin Phillips the agency's board has approved 18 bids on abandoned homes, and has received three checks.

This first round is for people who want to buy abandoned lots adjacent to their homes.

Jones says the second phase will identify large lots with development potential, get clear title to them, and sell them.

A third phase will put smaller lots up for bid.

Jones says the authority plans to get help clearing titles from students at the Southern University Law Center and local attorneys familiar with the process.
