LA Gov. Declares Thursday, April 21 ‘Keep Louisiana Beautiful Day’

BATON ROUGE – Governor John Bel Edwards officially declared Thursday, April 21, 2016, Keep Louisiana Beautiful Day in the state of Louisiana. On Thursday, state legislators will have the opportunity to meet the Keep Louisiana Beautiful team and learn more about how they serve the state.

This proclamation recognizes Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s exemplary efforts to build and sustain vibrant, clean communities in the state of Louisiana through education, volunteerism and enforcement, KLB reps said.

Each year, the state spends over $40 million on litter abatement. In an effort to reduce this unnecessary cost, since 2004, Keep Louisiana Beautiful has issued $2.7 million in grants to local communities for anti-litter programs and cleanups. In 2015 alone, the organization brought over 28,000 people together through an affiliate volunteer workforce.

The organization also collaborates with city and parish governments, as well as numerous state agencies, to help carry out the shared mission – to promote personal, corporate and community responsibility for a clean and beautiful Louisiana.

“We at Keep Louisiana Beautiful are proud of how far we have come and thank Governor Edwards for this prestigious proclamation,” said Keep Louisiana Beautiful Executive Director Susan Russell. “We are very excited to join our state leaders on Thursday to discuss all that we do to make Louisiana beautiful for generations to come.”

Keep Louisiana Beautiful, Inc. is the state’s anti-litter and community improvement organization focused on education, enforcement, awareness and cleanups. Affiliated with Keep America Beautiful, Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s mission is to promote personal, corporate and community responsibility for a clean and beautiful Louisiana.
