NEW ORLEANS — At the annual State of Mid-City Luncheon held today at The Cannery, the Greater Mid-City Business Association (GMCBA) awarded the 2018 Mid-City Business of the Year to The Krewe of Endymion and the 2018 Mid-City Person of the Year to Susan Guidry, former District A City Councilmember.
The Krewe of Endymion stages their annual Mardi Gras parade on the streets of Mid-City attracting tens of thousands of visitors to the Mid-City neighborhood, filling the neighborhood’s many bars and restaurants with parade goers. This year, the krewe fought hard to keep their route in Mid-City despite cries from city hall that an alternative route may work better for city logistics strained by threatening weather. Ed Muniz and Dan Kelly, Endymion principles, realized the importance of Endymion to Mid-City and insisted on keeping the traditional route.
Other businesses nominated for the award were Mark’s Mid-City Service Station, (celebrating 26 years of serving Mid-City), and Neyow’s Creole Café, a consistent contributor and supporter of neighborhood association events.
Susan Guidry, the former District A New Orleans City Councilmember, has been very active in the Mid-City neighborhood by serving on numerous boards and volunteering her time for many good causes. As city councilmember for Mid-City, Guidry was always very responsive to her district and remained very active in the neighborhood.
Others nominated for the award were Stephen and Pauline Patterson of Treo’s.
