NEW ORLEANS – Celebrity Grand Marshals for the official New Orleans Halloween parade, The KREWE OF BOO!, that will roll through the French Quarter on Saturday, Oct. 21, are WWE Superstars The Miz and Marys. Saints sports legend Bobby Hebert “The Cajun Cannon” will ride as a special guest, and the Celebrity King is none other than "Mr. Mardi Gras," Blaine Kern.
While the krewe celebrates its 10th anniversary, Blaine Kern will celebrate his 90th birthday.
WWE Superstar The Miz is the current WWE Intercontinental Champion and a former WWE Champion, winning the most illustrious prize in sports-entertainment in 2010. The Miz’s wife, Maryse, is one of the top female superstars in WWE and a former Women’s Champion.
With WrestleMania 34 returning to New Orleans this April, WWE’s participation in the Krewe of Boo is their first of many WrestleMania activations as part of the city’s Tricentennial celebration. “We are excited to welcome back WWE for the return of WrestleMania, and are thrilled to have helped marry these two great partners,” said Sam Joffray of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, who’s organization is leading the WrestleMania Host Committee. “The Krewe of Boo and WWE are both excellent ambassadors of the New Orleans brand, and we couldn’t think of a more exciting way to kickoff the road to WrestleMania 34.”
The KREWE OF BOO! will again seek to reduce parade waste that ends up in landfills by throwing New Orleans-made food items and local collectible objects that parade goers will want to consume or keep as mementos.
The excitement begins even before the parade, as the Krewe is hosting the first-ever New Orleans Zombie Run at 9:00 a.m. Participants can come dressed as a Zombie or their favorite monster. The Big Easy Rollergirls will participate as Zombie Killers. The 2-mile race starts at Generations Hall, 310 Andrew Higgins, and ends on Frenchmen Street for the zany Frenchmen Festival that is free and open to the public. The pre-parade party, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., will feature local musical performers.
The parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Elysian Fields Avenue and Decatur Street and will roll through the very heart of the French Quarter, ending at Generations Hall for the Monster Mash.
The Monster Mash is a ticketed costume event at Generations Hall, featuring 80's band A Flock of Seagulls and local DJs. Food and drink will be available for purchase.
Krewe sponsors include Aunt Sally's Pralines, Elmer's Fine Foods, Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, Haunted History Tours, Lucy’s Retired Surfer Bar & Restaurant, Mardi Gras World, MardiGrasNewOrleans.com, Pat O'Brien's, PJ's Coffee, The Mortuary and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.
