METAIRIE, LA – The growing roster of festivals in and around New Orleans is wide-ranging. But while most of those festivals celebrate local food items or music, the one that’s happening this weekend spotlights health and wellness.
On Sunday, Oct. 21, the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce will host the second annual LiveWell Fest, presented by Laitram. The free event takes place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. in Lafreniere Park. Created as part of the LiveWell Jefferson campaign, the festival will illustrate the importance of health and wellness, and encourage physical activity.
“The LiveWell Fest was created in 2017 as part of the Chamber’s LiveWell Jefferson campaign to increase awareness of health and wellness among the business community and residents of Jefferson Parish,” said Alex Zarookian, the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce’s director of investor relations and special events.”We thought the fest would be a great way to involve the community and encourage people to get active.”
The LiveWell festival will offer tasty bites from City Greens, Clean Creations, Crepes a la Cart, Gulf Tacos, Hippie Kitchen, and Reginelli’s Pizzeria, among other food vendors, along with refreshing treats from Plum Street Snowballs.
Guests can peruse the Jefferson Marketplace, which features health and wellness products, massages, and information from various healthcare organizations; and enjoy musical entertainment by Aaron Bejnamin, Kristin Diable, and The Bright Light Social Hour.
Ochsner Fitness Center instructors will keep the crowd moving through yoga, pilates, and zumba sessions, among other exercise classes.
Kids can romp on bounce houses and run through obstacle courses, or even practice yoga, during this family-friendly event.
Before LiveWell Fest begins, the twelfth annual Tour de Jefferson bike ride takes place. The scenic ride, which starts and ends in Lafreniere Park, offers riders the option of 42-, 28-, and 13-mile routes.
The free, two-mile Fun Run & Walk also happens in Lafreniere Park.
Cyclist and Fun Run & Walk participants can register online at tourdejefferson.org or by calling (504) 835-3880. Race apparel will be available for purchase at the fest, including t-shirts, tanks and cycling jerseys.
“LiveWell Fest really is the perfect family-friendly event to check out on a beautiful fall Sunday,” said Zarookian.
